A ‘new’ Huawei phone could arrive soon, and it will have Google apps

Shortly after the launch of the Huawei P30 series of phones, Google banned Huawei from using its apps on phones – that’s the most apps Android users use every day – and since then, new Huawei phones have missed these vital applications. However, it looks like the company may soon come up with a “new” phone with Google apps.

This news comes from Huawei itself, from its site in German (as spotted by Huawei Central), where the terms and conditions of an impending promotion list, among other Huawei phones, the “P30 Pro NEW EDITION” alongside other P30 phones. So the phone isn’t fully confirmed, but it seems pretty reliable proof.

At the start of 2020, the P30 Lite saw a “new edition” with more RAM and storage than the original. So it looks like the company will do the same with the Huawei P30 Pro, perhaps giving it a spec overhaul (although, given that the P30 Pro had a wide range of storage sizes, we didn’t expect not to be increased).

It’s unclear when we’ll see this new version of the Huawei P30 Pro, but the promotion it was mentioned as a part of starts on May 15, so there’s a chance we might see it before. That said, it might only be available in certain regions, or have a phased release date per country, so we can’t say for sure.

Why a new Huawei P30 Pro?

Since the P30 series, Huawei has also released the Mate 30 and P40 phones, so it may seem odd that it has decided to resurrect its smartphone series in early 2019.

However, that makes perfect sense – since Huawei P30 phones were launched before Huawei’s ban, they’re still allowed to be sold with Google apps, unlike the company’s newer devices. This also applies to the “new” Huawei P30 phones, so by launching “New Edition” devices the company has found a way around the ban.

So now people who want a new Huawei phone but also (understandably) need Google’s apps like the Play Store, Gmail, and Maps, have an option, even if it will give them slightly outdated technology. In our test, we gave the Huawei P30 Pro four and a half stars out of five, so it’s a great phone to choose.

It’s unclear how long this Huawei tactic may last, as there will come a time when the P30 series will be too old to resurrect for newer versions, but for now, it looks like Huawei is making the most of this. little escape.
