Honor’s first post-Huawei phone could arrive soon

It’s a big year for Honor. The brand was sold by its parent company Huawei in late 2020, and we’ve been waiting to see the first smartphone made by the company, but it looks like we have a few more months to wait.

According to Chinese site Tencent News, speaking to insiders, the first Honor phone will launch around July and it will use the high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset for great processing power.

March is a busy release month for smartphones, so it should be noted that Honor’s smartphone release date is later in the year. Apparently it’s so far away due to chipset shortages, which has affected many other companies as well.

The road ahead

This is not the first information we hear about the next Honor products. Recently, we heard about the brand’s first smartwatch and fitness tracker rolled out on its own (previously, Honor wearable devices were effectively rebadged Huawei’s).

It looks like by mid-2021 we should see the first technology Honor designed and developed, including both its wearable devices and this upcoming smartphone.

Could we see them in the UK and US, or just China, where Honor is based? It’s hard to say – since the company is, indeed, ‘new’ again, we might see it sticking to China for its first products as it prepares for a global release.

This is only speculation though, and we’ll have to wait and see what happens in the future.
