Huawei has really struggled to deal with all of the sanctions in the United States, which have affected its business in other markets as well, and unsurprisingly, this has contributed to a fairly substantial decline in registered business in Western Europe.
According to IDC data, Huawei’s phone sales fell from 6.2 million in the third quarter of 2019 to no less than 2.5 million units in the third quarter of 2020, a decrease of no less than 58.7 %.
This is a massive decrease, there is no doubt about it, and the global health problem is another reason to blame for it all.
But on the other hand, the lockdowns happening in Western Europe have actually helped companies like Apple and Xiaomi, both of which have improved their sales year over year.
Apple, Xiaomi, OPPO – the kings
Apple shipped 8.2 million iPhones in the third quarter of the year, up from 8.1 million units a year earlier (an increase of 1.1%), while Xiaomi grew from 1.5 million to ‘units to no less than 3.7 million, representing an improvement of no less than 151.6 percent.
“Among the top five suppliers, Apple, Xiaomi and OPPO were the stars of the third quarter, posting the strongest growth in the region. Apple benefited from strong sales of the all-new iPhone SE (2020) and continued performance of its iPhone 11 portfolio. The iPhone 11 and iPhone SE (2020) were the top two sellers of the quarter, ”says IDC.
Samsung continues to be the number one company even in Western Europe, with the difference that South Koreans are also struggling with difficult market conditions. Sales of Samsung’s new phones in this market fell from 11 million units in the third quarter of 2009 to 10.3 million units in the same quarter of 2020, down 6.9% year-on-year.
