(Pocket-lint) – A future Huawei phone could have a front camera below the screen. It’s unlikely that the P50 and P50 Pro will be announced anytime soon, as we believe these devices will launch in late July.
However, we expect devices with under-screen cameras to debut soon. The first will likely be the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 which debuts at Galaxy Unpacked on August 11.
This latest information on Huawei’s launch comes from LetsGoDigital who spotted this late 2020 patent for a phone with a triple camera on the back (patent documentation just came out). The handset has no notches or screen perforations on the front and is a completely edge-to-edge display.
There are a few other design details in the phone details. It retains a headphone jack at the top next to a mic while there is another mic at the bottom as well as a speaker and a USB-C port. The patent documentation shows the camera lenses in a few locations, but that’s not a key design change. Due to the phone’s specs – like the triple camera and headphone jack – this suggests that it is a mid-range phone, but that’s pure speculation at the moment.
